Mercedes-Benz Unveils AMG GT XX Concept Boasting 360 kmph Top Speed

5 months ago | 5 Views

As the first electric concept vehicle designed specifically for its purpose, the unveiling of the GT XX by Mercedes-AMG marks a significant turning point. Not just a design study, this four-door GT unveiled on June 25, 2025, heralds the manufacturer's first production vehicle, which is based on the specialized AMG.EA skateboard architecture.

Thrilling Electric Performance from the Powertrain

The tri-motor configuration at the center of the GT XX, which was co-designed with YASA, has three axial-flux electric motors, two in the back and one in the front. The GT XX reaches speeds of over 360 km/h (223 mph) thanks to the amazing 1,360 horsepower produced by this little but powerful arrangement.

The front motor, which is oil-cooled and integrated with SiC inverters and a planetary gearset, supports the majority of driving situations, while the rear motors help in slick or high-demand conditions.

Axial-flux motors are said to be three times more compact and energy-efficient than conventional radial-flux alternatives, with a much higher power density. Their smaller, lighter footprint is essential to maintaining consistent performance, which is a critical benefit for high-performance EVs.

Ultra-Rapid Charging and Next-Generation Batteries

The state-of-the-art 114 kWh battery in the GT XX is made up of tall, thin NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) cells housed in aluminum enclosures. Direct-contact liquid channels cool each cell separately, increasing thermal stability under load.

It runs on an 800-volt system and can handle ultra-fast DC charging at rates of up to 850 kW. Where compatible high-power infrastructure is accessible, this ability results in a range of around 400 km (250 miles) in only five minutes.

Retro-Tech with a Futuristic Flair is the design

The GT XX's "sunset beam orange" finish combines retro allusions to the legendary Mercedes C111 ideas from the 1960s with contemporary aerodynamics. Its drag coefficient of only 0.198 is a remarkable accomplishment for a performance EV, and it has a sculpted fastback profile, a concave Panamericana grille, and additional LED lights on either side.

The charging state is indicated by illuminated sills with electroluminescent "MBUX Fluid Light Paint." Then there are 21-inch wheels with aerodynamic blades that balance cooling demands and drag efficiency. The rear panel is equipped with more than 700 RGB LEDs ("MBUX Fluid Light Panel") for lighting effects or communication. Headlight slots that serve as external speaker housings for a synthetic V-8 exhaust sound design, bringing AMG's famous auditory signature into the electric age..
The interior of the GTXX looks very futuristic with dual screens and a new steering wheel.

Materials & Interior: A Combination of Sport and Sustainability

The interior of the GT XX features a cockpit built for enthusiastic driving, complete with high-voltage-inspired piping, exposed structural pieces, and racing-style carbon-fiber seats that are integrated into the back bulkhead. The two floating displays have a 10.25-inch driver display and a 14-inch infotainment screen running MB.OS, which includes an AMG-specific user interface and paddle shifters for regenerative control.

Sustainable materials are a highlight: the door trims use biotech-silk alternatives, the seat surfaces use leather substitutes made from recycled GT3 tyres, and even the interior surfaces reuse racing waste. This is a fusion of AMG's performance ethic and environmentally responsible innovation.

What's Next on the Road to Production?

With the GT XX concept serving as a sneak peek at the replacement for the GT 4-Door Coupé, Mercedes-AMG intends to start manufacturing its first electric GT as soon as 2026.

Its cutting-edge motor, battery, and design technologies will probably trickle down, enabling it to compete head-to-head with competitors like the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and Lucid Air Sapphire.
