Smriti Irani Clarifies: Acting Is Just a Side Project, Politics Is Her Main Focus

The reboot of the famous television program Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is about to mark Smriti Irani's comeback to the small screen. The actor-turned-politician discussed her career in both industries in an interview with NDTV and offered her perspective on how she will move the program forward. Smriti identified as a part-time actor and a full-time politician.

"Kyunki Saans Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi," said Smriti during the conversation. It's a side gig. "The program addressed marital rape."
She continued by saying that the critics of the program who claim that it glorifies patriarchy don't bother her. "Couldn't care less, because the criticism was not constructive or informed. 25 years ago, the program discussed marital rape. 25 years ago, the show discussed adult literacy. 25 years ago, the program addressed euthanasia. We addressed these topics in a television slot geared at family viewing, while mainstream movie completely ignored them. Twenty-five years ago, pay parity did not exist. Instead, pay parity was established, where one's talent, rather than gender, determined how much one would be paid. We established prime time by giving Ektaa [Kapoor] the 10:30 slot, which was a dead one.
On Star Plus and JioHotstar, the show will air at 10:30 p.m. beginning July 29.
