One of the most iconic series in Indian television history, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, will be returning to Star Plus. With episodes also available on JioHotstar (OTTplay Premium), the new season will debut on July 29, 2025, at 10:30 PM, according to the channel's promo. With the relaunch, Smriti Irani is back in the role she became famous for as Tulsi Virani when the show first ran in 2000.

Nostalgia takes centre stage

The new promo evokes nostalgia. Tulsi herself unexpectedly interrupts a family's restaurant reminiscences about the show in the first scene. As she stands next to a tulsi plant, she declares, "Zaroor aaoongi, kyunki humara 25 saalon ka rishta jo hai. Waqt aagaya hai aapse phir milne ka," Tulsi exclaims, donning her trademark bun, a purple saree, and a bindi. According to the channel, the sequel is a new chapter with new stories that keep the heartfelt core that made the original so popular.

In the next season, Amar Upadhyay will rejoin Smriti Irani in his role as Mihir Virani. The original storyline depended on their chemistry on screen, and the new version will likely place even more emphasis on it. A new generation of characters, such as well-known figures like Hiten Tejwani and Gauri Pradhan, will carry on the Virani family's legacy.

Ekta Kapoor is back in charge of the program.

Ekta Kapoor, the show's original creator and producer who helped shape Indian television in the early 2000s, is back in charge. This time around, the creators say they're incorporating contemporary themes while still staying true to the show's emotional underpinnings.

It has been 25 years since the show debuted on July 3, 2000, making its comeback on a significant anniversary. It transformed the way soap operas are told and quickly rose to prominence on Indian television. The original series ran for over 1,800 episodes before going off the air in 2008.

Smriti Irani's return to performing

After winning the program, Smriti Irani, who had previously quit acting and worked as a Union Minister, switched careers in politics. It's likely that individuals of all ages, from ardent supporters to those who have never watched the original, will tune in to witness her reprise her role as Tulsi Virani.

There is a lot of excitement about the upcoming debut of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, even if it is still a few weeks away. For now, though, Tulsi is back, and Indian television is keeping an eye on how well the reboot does in comparison to the original.
