It isn't a good idea to sledge Yuvraj Singh. In a Super Six stage encounter in Durban, the India white-ball legend unleashed mayhem on pacer Stuart Broad, hitting him for six sixes in an over. England great Andrew Flintoff learned the hard way during the 2007 T20 World Cup. After accomplishing the uncommon feat, Yuvraj even directed his bat at Flintoff, with whom he had recently had a passionate debate. However, this wasn't always true.

When Yuvraj made his debut for India at the age of 19, he was not nearly as aggressive as Flintoff discovered him to be seven years later. In reality, the all-rounder had no intention of arguing or using profanity on the field when playing cricket. Everything shifted when he faced Australia for the first time.

Yograj Singh, Yuvraj's father and a former Indian cricketer, disclosed that the legendary Steve Waugh's Australian team's sledging taught Yuvraj how to be resilient and retaliate. Waugh, who only played a few ODIs against Yuvraj, instructed the Indian batsman to stand up and face the music after he was struck by a bouncer, according to Yograj.

"For me, it's a war fought by gentlemen. People should recognize that there are moments when you are simply going through the motions while you are on the field. I'm not sure if you've heard about what Australians do on the field. They exploit everything in the universe. They employ every severe term in the dictionary. I recall Yuvraj falling after being struck by a ball. Yograj informed Inside Sports, "Steve Waugh came and said, 'Get up, this is not school cricket, you bloody kid.'"

What was the reason for Yuvraj Singh's dispute with Andrew Flintoff?

Yograj further explained that the incident between Yuvraj and Flintoff was a result of his son having learned to curse and retaliate against the opposing team after experiencing Waugh's anger.

"And he stood up and was standing." Yograj continued, "And then he would swear like this and what happened with Flintoff and Yuvi."

Yuvraj earned Player of the Match honors during his international debut in the 2000 Champions Trophy quarterfinal against Australia in Nairobi, Kenya. The youngster, who had just triumphed in the U19 World Cup, came in at No. 5 and scored 84 runs off 80 balls, including 12 boundaries, as India set 265/9. He faced the finest of the Australian bowlers with a bat full of strokes.

Yuvraj consistently demonstrated exceptional fielding abilities. He delivered a body blow to Australia by running out Michael Bevan, one of the game's finest finishers, after taking a sharp catch to dismiss Ian Harvey. India bowling Australia out for 245 to win the match by 20 runs and proceed to the tournament's semi-finals.

Yograj stated that one shouldn't dwell too much on emotions when players represent their country because they are bound to vary.

"When you go out, you're still friends." Not everyone is identical. Forgive them your emotions. Clearly, you are buddies in the end. You apologize to one another, and that's all. Have a big heart. Avoid getting caught up in such trivial matters. Fining children and such behavior is absurd. "It doesn't matter," he continued.
