Yashasvi Jaiswal Reacts Sharply to Sai Sudharsan After Costly Moment: ‘Let the Ball Go, Yaar’

Young Yashasvi Jaiswal is back to doing what he does best. He has piled runs against England, his favorite side. The young India opener continued his merry run against Ben Stokes' team, bringing up yet another fifty, after missing out on Lord's, where he was out for 13 and 0, marking the first time in seven Tests against England that he failed to surpass fifty. Jaiswal and KL Rahul scored 94 runs for the first wicket after India were forced to bat, but Chris Woakes broke the partnership soon after lunch. Jaiswal maintained his composure to finish his half-century, but KL Rahul only missed it by four runs as he drifted to second slip.

Sai Sudharsan, who was playing in just his second Test, walked out after Rahul's wicket fell. The 23-year-old, who made his debut in the series opener at Leeds, was left out of the following two games in Edgbaston and Lord's. Thus, it was somewhat predictable that he would be apprehensive. When a youngster fails the first test and is dropped, anyone would. Sudharsan's nerves were clearly in control as he adopted a defensive posture, limiting his stroke play and refraining from touching anything off-stump. In a similar vein, Sanjay Manjrekar commented that he missed the chance to knock out a few poor balls that were overpitched half-volleys.

Therefore, Sudharsan was quite interested when there was a possibility for scoring. In the 37th over, Sudharsan struck a delivery from Brydon Carse, barely managing to get past mid-on, after being trapped on three balls out of eighteen. Sudharsan moved off early, which might have been disastrous for the Indian team because Jaiswal was still in his crease at the non-striker's end, even before Carse tossed the ball fully and it went wide of the fielder. If the fielder had reached the ball and made a decent throw, the batter might have been in danger of being out or, worse, Jaiswal might have been run out.

As the more experienced professional in this area, Jaiswal quickly faced his companion prior to the following ball. "Sai, at least let the ball go past the fielder before taking off." However, the No. 3 batsman's confidence was greatly improved by the three runs that Sudharsan and Jaiswal took between the wickets. He began to bat with much greater confidence and certainty, and in the very next over, Sudharsan flicked Jofra Archer for a well-timed boundary.

Shortly after that, India dropped Jaiswal, narrowly defeating Liam Dawson to Harry Brook at first slip to give the left-arm spinner his first Test wicket in eight years. Jaiswal and Sudharsan scored 26 runs before England took their second wicket. When Jaiswal was out, Shubman Gill came to the middle, but the India captain was met with a roar of jeers. The running between the wickets seemed lot more effortless after Gill and Sudharsan shook hands. The two just played together, starting the innings for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL, and the seamless synergy between them was evident in their run calls and denials.
