The second chapter of the duel between IPL teammates Jofra Archer and Yashasvi Jaiswal took place in Manchester. In the third Test at Lord's, Archer, who was back in action, defeated Jaiswal in both innings, but in the fourth game, it was the India opener who won the battle, leaving the fast bowler "fuming in anger."

Jaiswal was cautious against his Rajasthan Royals teammate, who enticed him with pitches outside the off stump following Archer's twin dismissals in the third Test. Actually, Jaiswal didn't score a run until his eighth ball against Archer, and shortly after that, in the 24th over, he hit a fortunate boundary.

Jaiswal was taken aback when Archer smashed a shorter ball. He tried to avoid by arching back right away, but as the ball caught the bottom edge and sailed over the slip cordon for a boundary, he maintained his bat hanging up.

All Archer could do was grin at Jaiswal. "Jofra Archer might be smiling on the outside, but inside he's fuming with anger," said former England captain Mike Atherton from the commentary box.

Following the second session of Day 1, England is in the lead

With three rapid dismissals after Lunch, England recovered from India's opening session on Day 1 in Manchester, when the openers – KL Rahul and Jaiswal – scored an undefeated 94 runs.

Liam Dawson defeated Jaiswal in the battle of the batters, and Chris Woakes unlocked the gates after locating the outside edge of Rahul. In Manchester, not long before tea, Ben Stokes later exacted the ideal retaliation for Shubman Gill's pre-game press conference antics by taking the wicket of the Indian captain, who was greeted by boos. At the conclusion of the second session, India was 149/3.

After defeating the fiercely contested third Test at Lord's by 22 runs, England now leads the series 2-1.
