Despite scoring a century in the first Test against England in Leeds, India's opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal has faced criticism. He let go of four catches while he was in the slip cordon, and they turned out to be pivotal moments in the game. Reportedly, Sai Sudharsan, Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shubman Gill, and KL Rahul all got slip fielding instruction during the training session in Birmingham on Monday, so it seems like Jaiswal might not be used as a slip fielder in the second Test.

India fielding coach Ryan ten Doeschate praised Jaiswal and referred to him as a "good catcher" during the pre-match press conference.

"Look, I think we always want depth in the catching department. For our team, Yashasvi has proven to be an excellent catcher. We want to keep his confidence in check. Additionally, the short leg may be a crucial position, especially if we intend to use two spinners. And we want to select additional men for that role. Therefore, I believe that the more adaptable we are as a fielding team, the more roles our players can play.

The former Dutch cricketer further stated that Jaiswal's absence from the slip area is intended to provide him with rest. You're always going to have four catchers at some point throughout the game in England. And perhaps give Yashasvi a rest from catching in the gully for a bit. His hands are very sore. He stated, "We want to restore his confidence."

Following the first Test, former cricketer Mohammad Kaif defended Jaiswal, saying that he was wearing a tape on his fingers while fielding, which might have put him in danger.

The tape, according to Kaif, was the cause of the dropped catches. In the meantime, Australian icon Greg Chappell has supported Jaiswal and noted that the missed opportunities were not due to any technical flaws but rather to a lack of confidence or a possible injury issue.
