Wimbledon Upset: Zverev Falls to French Underdog in First-Round Exit
5 months ago | 5 Views
As seeds fell on Tuesday, third seed Alexander Zverev experienced a stunning departure from Wimbledon 2025. Zverev followed the same course in men's singles hours after Jessica Pegula was eliminated from the first round of women's singles. In a marathon match that was halted overnight in the middle court, the German lost to unseeded Arthur Rinderknech by a score of 6-7, 7-6, 3-6, 7-6, 4-6.
Zverev's first exit at a major event since 2019 came at the All England Club as well.

The only other time Rinderknech, a 29-year-old Frenchman, won a professional match at Wimbledon was the previous year.
Rinderknech made it to the quarterfinals of the Queen's Club in the lead-up to the competition, defeating Reilly Opelka and Ben Shelton along the way.
Zverev has made it to the fourth round of Wimbledon three times, including last year, but no farther. A year ago, Taylor Fritz defeated him in five sets.
