Wimbledon: Sabalenka Glides into Round Three, Determined to Sidestep Shocks

The carnage that has occurred throughout the first few rounds of Wimbledon was brought up during the on-court interview in Mumbai. Out of the 64 seeded players in the men's and women's singles draws, 23 were defeated in the first round.
On Wednesday, Aryna Sabalenka was questioned about whether or not she pays any attention to the outcomes of the games around her.
The world No. 1 stated, "It's very sad to see so many top players lose in the first round." "As the time shows, you better focus on yourself and stay away from the results." You'll have a general idea, of course, but it's preferable to approach it gradually and give it your best each time you're here competing.
"I hope there are no more upsets in this tournament, if you know what I mean," she said, almost as an afterthought, as she smiled.
For the first time, the Belarusian is the number one seed at Wimbledon. Despite the challenges faced by many of the seeded players on the grass courts of the All England Club, Sabalenka appeared at ease as she defeated the world number one. On Centre Court, Marie Bouzkova won 7-6(4) and 6-4 against No. 48.

Two-time reigning champion and second seed Carlos Alcaraz also swept into the third round with a simple 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 victory over British amateur Oliver Tarvert a few hours later.
Although it's still early in the competition, Sabalenka seems to have transitioned from clay to grass. Most crucially, she has moved on from her defeat in the French Open championship match.
She had made 70 unforced mistakes in that loss against Coco Gauff. However, on Wednesday, Sabalenka seemed to be more in charge, making 41 winners against just 18 unforced mistakes.
But the game still had a few tense moments.
Bouzkova took a 6-5 advantage after she was the first to make a move since neither player could break through in the beginning. Sabalenka may have needed to break, as she broke back right away before winning the tiebreak.
"That was a difficult time in that game," Sabalenka said on the court. "To be honest, I was only attempting to return the ball to that side and hoping that I would be able to break her back. Because my return up to that point wasn't strong enough to break her serve. I felt a little bit better after I managed to snap her back at that point. I believe that's why I was able to secure the victory in straight sets by winning the tiebreaker.
Sabalenka has maintained her composure throughout this Wimbledon, which has seen some of the biggest names fall far earlier than anticipated. Her intention to surpass her prior performance in London will be aided by continuing to play in the same manner.
The 27-year-old has been trying to overcome the restrictions of being a hardcourt specialist, a surface on which she has so far captured all three of her Grand Slam championships.
She's also looking forward to winning her first significant competition of the year. In the Australian Open, she made it to the championship match, but she was defeated in three sets by Madison Keys. She made it to the French Open final on clay last month for the first time, but she was defeated by Gauff in three sets.
She will now attempt to advance beyond the two semifinal appearances she made in her previous two attempts in London at Wimbledon.
However, she has gone to England well-prepared. She said that seven-time Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic provided her with some "honest advice" during their training session together.
Sabalenka certainly has the ability to inflict some harm, particularly on grass. Her hard hitting style and flat ball contact are effective on Wimbledon's low-bounce, quick-zip surface. The strong serve is another potent weapon.
