West Indies Fast Bowler Jayden Seales Penalized After Intense Send-Off to Pat Cummins in Barbados Test
5 months ago | 5 Views
Jayden Seales, the West Indies pacer who grabbed five wickets in the first innings of the Barbados Test against Australia, has been penalized for giving Pat Cummins a furious farewell after he was out. The speedster broke Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the opening day of the first Test of the three-match series, for which the game official has assessed a 15% penalty of his match fees.
One demerit point has been added to Seales' disciplinary history. The 23-year-old pacer now has two demerits in his account since this was his second infraction in a 24-month span.
Earlier, on December 3, 2024, the speedster received one demerit point while playing a Test match against Bangladesh in Kingston, Jamaica.
Seales was found guilty of violating Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The topic of this specific Article is "using language, actions, or gestures that disparage or that could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match."
There was no need for a formal hearing since Seales acknowledged the offense and agreed to the penalty imposed by match referee Javagal Srinath.
On-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Nitin Menon, third umpire Adrian Holdstock, and fourth umpire Gregory Brathwaite all made the accusation.
It's important to note that Level 1 violations have a minimum punishment of an official warning, a maximum penalty of 50% of a player's match fee, and one or two demerit points.

What transpired between Cummins and Seales?
The West Indies pacer Jayden Seales got Pat Cummins out in the 55th over of Australia's first innings, and then he motioned towards the pavilion after taking his wicket.
In the first Test between Australia and the West Indies, Australia held a lead of 82 runs against the home team after scoring 92/4 at Stumps on Day 2.
Adrian Holdstock, the TV umpire, is the focus of a controversy after making several contentious decisions during the Barbados Test.
The same topic was even discussed by West Indies coach Daren Sammy with the match referee Srinath. The captain, who led the squad to victory in the T20 World Cup, told reporters that he wanted "consistency" in DRS decisions.
