In response to the rape and sexual assault allegations surrounding a male national team cricketer, West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has made his first public statement, stating that justice must be done and due process must be followed. According to the Caribbean media outlet Kaieteur News, the claims state that the player has been accused of rape, sexual assault, or unwanted sexual advances by at least 11 women, including a teenager. According to the study, certain complaints were filed with law enforcement in Guyana, and there were claims that attempts were made to bury the issue.

During a press conference prior to the second Test match against Australia in Grenada, Sammy discussed the issue. "One thing I can say is that we believe in justice. We are a community that believes justice must be served." There is a procedure, though. As the head coach and as a cricketing board, I want justice for everyone, and we will keep providing support in any way we can to ensure that the proper procedure and system are followed.

The uproar has rocked the Caribbean cricket world, particularly in the midst of a high-profile home Test series against Australia, despite the fact that the accused cricketer's identity is still unknown.

In order to keep the team's heads in the game, Sammy said he discussed the rumors with his players.

"We are all aware of what has been happening in the media. I have a strong bond with my players. "I've talked to them to make sure they're in a good frame of mind," he continued.

Sammy refused to comment when questioned directly if Cricket West Indies (CWI) should conduct its own inquiry into the issue, saying, "I can't answer that." I'm quite confident that, as I stated, they are doing all they can to ensure that the proper procedure is followed.

The reports state that many women have since come forward, and one family has even claimed that a sexual assault happened on March 3, 2023. It has been said that complaints have included supporting evidence such screenshots, voice recordings, and medical records.

As the identity of the accused player remained unknown and calls for openness and responsibility from the governing organization increased, the remainder of the Test series was overshadowed by the scandal.
