In anticipation of their match against England at Edgbaston in little over 24 hours, India captain Shubman Gill lost no time in heading to the middle of the pitch. The makeup of India's XI would be radically altered by two things: the nature of Edgbaston and Jasprit Bumrah's absence due to workload management.

Since the advent of Bazball, some of the flattest pitches have come from Edgbaston. The last time England played India at this location, they successfully chased down their greatest Test cricket score ever—381. Furthermore, there is no evidence of a shift in that story.

Will India use two spinners in the second Test at Edgbaston?

It is harder for the curators to create a pitch that caters to the needs of the fast bowlers because of the dry English summers.

When asked if the team could field two spinners at Birmingham, Gill responded during the pre-match presser, "It is not common to see two spinners in England." However, the weather was unusual.

"It rained a lot, and the sun was shining. If we had an additional spinner in the fourth inning of the previous game as well, it would have been improved. He also stated that we could have taken advantage of a few spots in the wicket.

When Jadeja was bowling, the side felt like they were limiting opportunities, according to Gill. Particularly when the ball grew old and lost its movement, spinners had a far easier time holding runs than pacers.

"The wickets were also beneficial for hitting." Therefore, we believe that on these sorts of pitches, a second spinner may at least keep a run in check until the second new ball arrives if the fast bowlers are not generating enough opportunities for the fast bowlers. Therefore, after considering the previous game, I came to the conclusion that a second spinner would not be a good choice if the wicket were to be in the same condition as it was in the previous game.
