Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers Share Heartwarming Reunion as RCB Icons, While Tim David Watches On

Moments before the start of the IPL 2025 final on Tuesday, two Royal Challengers Bengaluru legends reunited at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers were seen having a wonderful time. With the tournament certain to crown a new champion by the conclusion of the evening, RCB is facing the Punjab Kings in their first IPL final in nine years.
Kohli walked over to De Villiers, who was on location for broadcasting duties, just a few minutes after the toss. Kohli and the former South African international exchanged a quick embrace before Kohli was seen whispering a few words into the ear of his counterpart.
But the viral moment also featured a devastated Tim David in the background, who regrettably failed to be selected for the final's playing XI. Due to a hamstring injury sustained during the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Aussie batter was unable to participate in the Qualifier 1 match against the Punjab Kings and the last league match for RCB against the Lucknow Super Giants. With RCB having a five-day break before the final, the team management had hoped that he would get back into shape, but he was unable to do so.
The decision was made by PBKS to bat first
Punjab won the toss, and captain Shreyas Iyer, who became the second PBKS skipper to lead the team into an IPL final, chose to bowl first. In Ahmedabad, where teams have typically won more games when batting first, this choice went against the prevailing trend. But Iyer was compelled to choose to bowl first due to the overcast weather in the Gujarat city, and that choice led to their victory over Mumbai Indians at the same location on Sunday in the second Qualifier.
"I only want to send my mind and body good signals. It's a fantastic day. The atmosphere is exhilarating. All we need to do is come here and appreciate. The boys have a terrific attitude and physique. The team meeting's topic was primarily on how the calmer you are, the better. No problem with nerves. I won't claim that it's similar to any other game. This is the last one, and we're going to approach it as such. "A great feeling just thinking about raising the trophy," he said after the flip.
Neither team made any changes to their XI.
