Virat Kohli Predicts Rohit Sharma’s Average Would Dip if He Played England Pitches

Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar advised supporters and cricket experts not to lump Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli together when talking about their Test cricket exploits. Considering Kohli's performance in the SENA nations, Manjrekar reiterated that there is no comparison between the two in the longest format of the game, stating that Kohli is much ahead.

Before the trip to England, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma both quit the Test format. Consequently, two of the most experienced players on the Shubman Gill-led team are absent for the next five games. Recently, prior to the first test in Headingley, Gill was questioned about the pair's absence and how the squad would manage.

Kohli represented India in 123 Tests, and Rohit ended his Test career after 67 games. With an average of 46.85, Kohli surpassed Rohit's average of just over 40.

After hitting 30 tons in Tests, Virat Kohli bid farewell to the longest format, while Rohit scored 12 centuries. Kohli scored 9230 runs in 123 games, whereas Rohit racked up 4301 runs in 67 games.

Manjrekar said in a video posted to his Instagram account, "Just recently, Shubman Gill, India's new Test captain, made a statement about how he is now going to feel the pressure of the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the England season, the Test series there." And it awoke the bee that had been in my head for a while. The issue is less with the statement itself than with the tendency to group Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli together.

"We even have a word for them, RoKo. I can comprehend it in white-ball cricket since there is some comparison between the players. That's for another day, even if there's a debate there as well. In terms of red-ball cricket, the two cannot be compared in any way. I will never group them together. To provide you with some statistics so that you don't have to believe me.

Would've Given India's Captaincy To Virat Kohli"- Ex-England Captain's Bombshell

"If Rohit had traveled to England, his average would have decreased."

Manjrekar also maintained that if Rohit Sharma hadn't quit and traveled to the UK for the five-game series against England, his average would have decreased. Considering Virat Kohli's experience in the SENA nations, he added that there is no argument between Rohit Sharma and him.

"The true test of a batsman in the SENA nations is Virat Kohli, who has 12 hundreds in that area, and 30 Test hundreds as well. In the SENA nations, Rohit Sharma only has one hundred—the one he scored against England in the Oval in 2021. Only 100 of his more than 100 innings have been in SENA nations. Additionally, the average is currently 40.

And I dare say that average would have fallen into the 30s if he had kept playing or moved to England. That would be my educated guess, although I can't be certain. Therefore, in Test cricket, please, red-ball cricket, Virat Kohli is in a different league when you compare him to Rohit Sharma. In red-ball cricket, this comparison between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and placing them in the same category, I say, "Roko, stop that."

In India's most recent two Test series against New Zealand and Australia, both Rohit and Virat had a terrible time. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener in Perth, Kohli scored a century, but Rohit failed to record a single half-century in his previous six games.
