Virat Kohli Opens Up About Messaging Novak Djokovic, Praises Tennis Legend
4 months ago | 5 Views
According to Virat Kohli, he has been in frequent communication with tennis great Novak Djokovic, with the two athletic stars maintaining regular contact and exchanging messages throughout the course of their careers. On Monday, Kohli was seen at Centre Court with his wife, Anushka Sharma, a well-known Bollywood actress. The great hitter, who just declared his retirement from Test cricket, was present at the Wimbledon 2025 fourth-round match between Djokovic and Australian 11th seed Alex de Minaur, where the Serbian legend won a vital victory. In a match that lasted three hours and nineteen minutes, Djokovic overcame a setback in the first set to defeat his opponent 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 and secure his spot in the quarterfinals.
Kohli said that he admires Novak Djokovic, the Serbian tennis legend, and that he wants the former World No. 1 to win Wimbledon this year. Djokovic would surpass Margaret Court's long-held record and establish himself as the most accomplished player in Grand Slam history with his 25th Grand Slam victory at the All England Club.
The cricket celebrity predicted that the ideal final would be between Djokovic and Spanish great Carlos Alcaraz, who has won the last two tournaments here.
"Listen, I've been in contact with Novak for a while now. We've been communicating via email. Staying in contact has been a really generous and thoughtful gesture on his part. Therefore, I would want Novak and Carlos to compete in the final, and ideally for Novak to win this one, since it would be a huge accomplishment for him at this point in his career," Kohli told Star Sports.
‘Djokovic among the best’
If Djokovic isn't the best, he should at least be included among the greatest of all time, according to Kohli. Kohli acknowledged Djokovic's tremendous effort and commitment over the years and said that he's hoping for a last battle between Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz—and a Djokovic victory.
With the most Grand Slam victories, he would be in the top tier—if not the best—in the debate about who is the greatest of all time. He merits it. "Given the amount of hard work he's put in, I really hope he plays Carlos in the final-and wins," he said.
