Although the rigors of Test cricket and the complexities of professional sports may all be a bit too much for her, Hinaya, Harbhajan Singh's 8-year-old daughter, was devastated to learn about Virat Kohli's Test retirement from her father's X post. When Harbhajan, the former India off-spinner, was unable to provide an adequate explanation for Kohli's change of heart, the little girl repeatedly pressed him for the reasons. As a result, she chose to get in touch with Kohli directly.
Kohli's decision to retire from red-ball cricket was questioned by his daughter Hinaya in a text message, Harbhajan stated. Kohli felt instantly moved by the text message. "Beta, it's time," he said with a smile.
"I tweeted and asked Virat, 'Why? Why? What caused your retirement from Test cricket? "Papa, why did Virat retire?" my own daughter asked. "This is Hinaya, Virat, why did you retire?" she even wrote Virat. Virat also felt his heart drop. "Beta, it's time," he said with a grin. He knows the best," Harbhajan informed Instant Bollywood.
For India, Kohli and Harbhajan have collaborated in five T20Is, eight tests, and forty-one ODIs. Additionally, they were members of India's victorious 2011 World Cup squad.
On May 12, Kohli revealed that he was quitting Test cricket. With 30 centuries, a run average of 46.85, and a total of 9230 runs, the 36-year-old Kohli played for India in 123 Tests. After retiring from T20 Internationals last year, he will now only play in ODIs.
On his Instagram profile, Kohli stated, "It's not easy for me to move away from this format, but it feels right. I've given it my all, and it's given me back so much more than I could've expected."
"I'm walking away with a heart full of gratitude — for the game, for the people I shared the field with, and for every single person who made me feel seen along the way," he said.
Prior to resigning from the position in 2022, Kohli was a motivational personality and India's most accomplished Test captain, leading the team to 40 victories and 17 losses in 68 games.
Following closely behind are Sourav Ganguly with 21 victories out of 49 and Mahendra Singh Dhoni with 27 wins out of 60.
The departure of Indian luminaries from the Test arena persisted with his retirement. Other players that have given up the format are Rohit Sharma (last week) and Ravichandran Ashwin (in December).
