After announcing their engagement for over a year, Aaron Rodgers and Shailene Woodley split up in 2022. According to a People article, the couple split up peacefully, with the amicable split stating that "it just wasn't working."

"They were very different people with demanding jobs, and there were barriers they couldn't overcome. They will continue to be cordial; there will be no animosity or drama. A source told the newspaper, "It simply didn't work out for them."

The potential divide began after Aaron Rodgers garnered attention in late 2021 for refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine. He was criticized when he admitted that he had not gotten the vaccine. Shailene backed him at the time.

She said on Instagram, "Literally, you all need to calm the f—k down." She also protected him from those attempting to tarnish his reputation, accusing them of trying to "disparage" Aaron's reputation.

The couple maintained a low profile throughout their relationship until they broke up. In early 2021, they announced their engagement to the public. “I got engaged and I played some of the best football in my career,” Aaron Rodgers said when winning an NFL MVP trophy. On stage, he also expressed gratitude to his "fiancée."

Shortly after that, Shailene discussed their relationship on Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show. She explained that they had met during the pandemic when football games were held in empty stadiums. "We met during this whacky, whacky time and all the stadiums were closed that he was playing in," she added. She also made a joke, saying she never expected to be with someone who "throws balls for a living."

By fall 2021, the pair appeared to be leading increasingly independent lives. Aaron informed Haute Living that they were both occupied with their jobs. There were also reports that they did not always see eye to eye on political issues. "They are not talking about their politics, and they never really have," the source told People, adding that they limited such discussions. "They disagreed on a lot of things." They made the decision at the beginning not to argue about issues but rather to agree to disagree about them.
