That Starc Delivery to Sachin: The Moment Greatness Emerged ‘Ball Rose Under His Armpit...’

Following his six-wicket performance in the second innings of the pink-ball Test against the West Indies in Jamaica, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc is the talk of the town. The visitors were able to bowl out the Windies for the second-lowest Test score in the history of the game (27) thanks to the left-arm seamer's scorching performance. In only 15 deliveries, Starc captured a fifer, ending with his career-best stats of 6/9.
Ricky Ponting, the previous captain of the Australia team, claims that Starc was born to be great. He said that from the time the pacer made his debut in international cricket, he appeared to be the kind of player who would eventually play 100 Tests for the nation.
At the age of 19, Starc played his first first-class match for New South Wales in 2009. He managed to break into the Australian Test XI in under two years.
He is now amassing a fantastic career, with more than 400 wickets taken in Test matches. In my opinion, everyone who saw him as a child recognized that he had the potential to be a fast bowler for Australia in 100 Test matches with 400 or 500 wickets, Ponting stated on ICC Review.
“He must be 6'5". He's always had speed on his side. He has always been in the upper 140s, and he has occasionally broken through the 150 mark. Additionally, he said, "he has been able to swing the new ball back into the right-handers."

Sachin Tendulkar's scorching spell at Starc
To Sachin Tendulkar, Ponting then also remembered one of Mitchell Starc's spells, which had the Master Blaster in all kinds of difficulty. According to the former captain of Australia, this specific period made him think Starc was on the path to greatness.
“I recall he was bowling a spell to Sachin Tendulkar and was able to sort of bowl a short one, get up under Sachin's armpit, and Sachin just sort of knocked one into short leg on the leg side,” Ponting said.
“And when you could see that sort of pace and bounce and have someone like Sachin not be able to cope with it, I think that was the reassurance for all of us that there was probably something extra special there for Mitchell Starc,” he continued.
Only Glenn McGrath has represented Australia in more than 100 Tests as an Australian pacer, making Mitchell Starc the second. In the longest format, he has taken 402 wickets at an average of 27.02.
Additionally, he has captured 323 wickets in both game formats for Australia in 127 ODIs and 65 T20Is.
