Under Temba Bavuma's leadership, South Africa ended their 27-year ICC Trophy drought. The Proteas' five-wicket victory against Australia in the WTC Final will be remembered as the victory that ultimately ended the infamous ICC curse. The Proteas also won the title in style, capturing it with eight consecutive Test victories.

Following the victory, all eyes were on Bavuma, who had also overcome a hamstring injury during the second innings and formed a partnership that won the match.

During the victory celebrations, Bavuma was also accompanied on the field by his son. Bavuma's son received the Test mace from him in a touching moment, and the two also celebrated together.

After the game, Bavuma remarked, “It has been a special couple of days, at some point, felt like we were back in South Africa with all the support in the stands.” We have put in a lot of effort to get to this point. We arrived here with a lot of confidence but also a lot of skeptics, and we're glad that we were able to perform well enough to achieve that kind of outcome. It’s been a special moment for us as a team and for the folks back home; maybe it will truly sink in in a few days. The energy was present, we've been eager for this as a team, and we've been persistently putting ourselves in a position to compete in finals, kind of knocking on the door.

"We've experienced the heartbreak and disappointment, witnessed it with past players who came before us, and right now, the sun is shining on us." We've been shouldering that responsibility, and I hope this is just the first of many. A few days ago, I visited the ICC Hall of Fame in Leeds, and KG is a huge player. I believe KG will be one of those individuals in a few years. He entered the match amid controversy. He was inspired to accomplish what he had to do, and like a champion, he came and did it. (Markram) It was unbelievable; a few people were questioning why Aiden was on the squad. While statistics are important, we consider a player's character, and someone like Aiden possesses all of those qualities. We were aware that we would have to go out and play in the second inning, and he brought it in like a real Aiden. Another significant participant for us.

"Character has been a big thing for us as a team, and those two guys are the ones who embody that." We made it to the final as a team, despite some skepticism about the path we took, which allegedly involved facing lesser opponents. We're glad we can perform like this, and we hope it kind of puts an end to that. This is a chance for us as a nation, no matter how divided we may be at times, to put all of that aside, take pleasure in this moment, and simply be one. “I'm sure the people back home will be celebrating it with us and you can trust that we will be celebrating it massively as well,” he added.
