T20WC Anniversary Bash: Bumrah Takes the Lead in Birmingham, Pant-Ravindra Jadeja Banter Goes Viral

India has been reliving that amazing evening and commemorating all over the globe after ending a lengthy and agonizing drought of no trophies, one year after the renowned triumph at the T20 World Cup final in Barbados. When Suryakumar Yadav made that famous catch on the long-off boundary, ensuring India was once again the winner of an ICC trophy, a generation of cricketers breathed a sigh of relief for having finally won silverware. A year later, on June 29, 2025, several of the key members of that winning team were in Birmingham, where they shared a pair of cakes to celebrate the occasion.
A few members of India's traveling party in England are seen in a video released by the BCCI on social media, getting ready in a Birmingham restaurant for the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Edgbaston. Nevertheless, this was a wonderful opportunity for important individuals to reminisce about where they were a year ago and celebrate the present moment with one another prior to the start of the serious business on July 2.
The Indian team celebrated the occasion with two separate cakes, one reading "Team India" and the other reading "Champions T20 WC 2024." With Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Siraj all pushing one another to take the lead and cut the cake, no one seemed prepared to step up and assume accountability.
'Paaji, kaato na…'
In the end, as he did a year prior, Jasprit Bumrah stepped forward and accepted accountability, delivering two crucial overs that shifted the course of a match that was heavily in South Africa's favor, with the Proteas needing run-a-ball from the final five overs to win. After their younger battery-mate Arshdeep pushed them by saying "Paaji, kaato na (cut it no.)," Bumrah came forward to cut one cake, while Siraj performed his responzibilities for the other.
Pant also made fun of Ravindra Jadeja by pointing out that they were also commemorating the one-year anniversary of his retirement from the T20 format, in which the all-rounder decided to call it quits in the shortest format alongside Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma following that finals victory. But Jadeja was quick to counter, pointing out to his younger teammates that he was still active in the other two formats.
In a really beautiful moment that captured the significance of this period, the players then proceeded to feed each other pieces of the cake, demonstrating that the Indian team had finally overcome its albatross by winning the trophy after years of almost but not quite making it to the finish line.
It is still unclear if this sincere team moment might serve as the foundation for India to recover after its opening defeat in the English series.
