Sunil Gavaskar Jokes About Attempting a Backstand After Pant’s Century

Rishab Everyone still likes Pant the best. As a result, it should come as no surprise that even Sunil Gavaskar, the former captain of India, was anticipating the southpaw to display his distinctive somersault celebration after scoring his century in the second innings of the first Test against England on Day 4. Pant is only the second wicketkeeper-batter in the history of the game to record twin centuries in a Test.
The audience was eagerly anticipating whether the 27-year-old would replicate his first innings somersault after reaching the triple-figure milestone, as he did following his century in the second innings.
When Gavaskar asked for a somersault celebration, Rishabh Pant replied, "some time later," most likely using sign language.
On the Sony Sports Network, after Stumps on Day 4, Gavaskar remarked about Rishabh Pant, "Very, very happy." I mean, you get really happy anytime an Indian does well because you know how much Indians love cricket. Every Indian family, I'm sure, has at least one member who follows the sport, if not everyone.
"And so, if you do well, if India does well, then naturally it is, it's a great feeling to make that family happy. "And so to see this young kid, come back, I mean, look what had happened to him with all those, with that crash," he continued.
It should be noted that Rishabh Pant introduced a brand-new celebration after his century in the second innings, which included a hand motion pointing toward his eye.
"Do you know what that celebration is? Could you describe it? I was also anticipating that flip." When he didn't execute a double flip, I was a bit let down by the commentary. Given Rishabh, he'll constantly attempt to make his celebrations better, but I think your celebration is probably taking this little bit," said former England captain Michael Vaughan.
In response to Vaughan, Gavaskar said, "No, this is, I think that's basically, thanking the gods above. There was something in his eye. He sort of made us aware of the signal."
Eventually, Sunil Gavaskar made light of the fact that he used to be able to perform a backstand and that he considered pulling out the celebration during the Headingley Test.
Gavaskar said, "I must admit that I came here after that, and I was trying not to perform the backflip, no chance of, at my age, but I used to do the backstand and I was looking to do the backstand."
"Therefore, I would have demonstrated it here if I had been able to do it successfully then, but I wasn't," he said.
The Headingley Test may be held anywhere
India was able to establish a respectable score of 371 in front of England in the fourth and final innings of the Headingley Test thanks in part to Rishabh Pant's innings and KL Rahul's courageous century.
The pair established a 195-run stand for the fourth wicket, and their collaboration was the primary cause of India's 364 score in the second innings.
With the hosts still needing 350 runs for the victory, England's score at stumps on Day 4 was 21/0. With 12 and 9 runs apiece, Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley are undefeated.
India was bowled out for 364 in the second innings. Brydon Carse and Josh Tongue each grabbed three wickets for England.
