India arrived in Manchester for the crucial red-ball game at the same time that the Manchester United squad was returning to their headquarters for preseason practice during the casual session. This partnership was timed perfectly since the top sportswear company Adidas supports both squads, which led to the crossover. Injuries to important seamers Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh earlier severely damaged India's preparations for the fourth Test at Old Trafford. Arshdeep left a practice session in Beckenham in pain after suffering a blow to his bowling hand, while Akash is dealing with a groin niggle that occurred during the Lord's Test.

Since both are currently uncertain for the Manchester game, the selectors have brought in Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj to cover for the last two games of the series. He belonged to the India Earlier this summer, a team claimed four wickets in the second unofficial Test in Northampton, including two in one over, and made a strong impression. Kamboj demonstrated his tenacity with the bat in the same game, forming an unbreakable 149-run alliance with Tanush Kotian, and not just with the ball.

With Jasprit Bumrah's availability and Mohammed Siraj's workload needing close supervision, India's bowling lineup has been in a state of flux due to the setbacks.
