Somehow, the hosts were able to secure a 22-run victory in the nail-biting third Test between India and England, which concluded on Day 5. Ravindra Jadeja seemed at one point to be able to win the match for India on Day 5, as he forged tenacious alliances with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.
Siraj was the last wicket to fall, and he had a look of sadness and disillusionment. The England team comforted him, and Jadeja too.
In an interview, Mohammed Siraj discusses his dismissal from Lord's
Siraj opened up about the situation to reporters before the fourth test, saying that he felt secure at the plate, but that the loss "stung" at the
I truly felt as though I couldn't get out while I was batting. That trust was genuine. I kept thinking to myself that if I did get out, it would just be my fault, and then it occurred, he stated.
"That game might have been ours. The defeat was painful.
“Everyone simply remarked, ‘Good fight,’ after the game. We were once on the verge of losing by 80 points. We internalized it. The struggle was significant," he said.
India completely seized the momentum after England was bowled out for 192 in their second innings following a superb all-around performance by the Indian bowlers. India was chasing 193 runs after both teams scored the same in the first innings.
However, Jofra Archer dismissed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for a seven-ball duck, and England had different ideas. Next was Karun Nair's dismissal, and his comeback is becoming a flop. Brydon Carse, who also ousted new captain Shubman Gill (6), fired Nair (14). As India struggled to 58/4 at Stumps, Ben Stokes ensured that Day 4 concluded on a level playing field by dismissing nightwatchman Akash Deep (1).
On Day 5, KL Rahul picked up where he left off, still undefeated, and continued batting alongside Rishabh Pant. Possibly as a result of his finger ailment, Pant was unable to duplicate his previous performance and was fired for nine runs after twelve deliveries. Rahul was soon fired or 39 out of 58 balls.
Jadeja then gave a commanding performance. However, the seasoned player failed to get any help from the other middle order hitters, as Nitish Kumar Reddy could only manage 13 runs off 53 balls and Washington Sundar was caught by Archer for a four-ball duck. Jadeja (61*) did get some support from the tailenders, but it wasn't enough.
India seemed to be on the verge of a stunning comeback toward the conclusion as Jadeja began to form partnerships with Bumrah (5 from 54 deliveries) and Siraj (4 from 30 deliveries), but as India fell at 170 runs, both pacers were under pressure.
