Sinner Stuns with Coaching Overhaul on Eve of Wimbledon
5 months ago | 5 Views
Just before attempting to win his first Wimbledon title, ATP world No. 1 Jannik Sinner has suddenly split ways with his physiotherapist and fitness trainer days before the start of his competition against fellow countryman Luca Nardi. According to the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Marco Panichi and Ulises Badio, who have been members of the Italian team since the tournament begins in SW19 next week, will not be part of Sinner's squad.
With the pair being relieved of their duties after their role in Sinner's high-profile doping case came to light last year, Panichi and Badio have been members of Sinner's squad since he released Umberto Ferrare and Giacomo Naldi. However, less than ten months have passed since Sinner has ruled men's tennis, and he is now prepared to leave his new team as well.
The partnership joined Sinner's squad together with renowned Australian coach Darren Cahill, and under their direction, he won the Australian Open, the US Open, and the Nitto ATP Finals, but his three-month ban meant that he only really spent six months with them.
The motives for Sinner's choice to break up with Panichi and Badio are still unknown, but they will undoubtedly be a major topic during the 23-year-pre-tournament old's press conferences.

The attempt by Sinner to rebound from his devastating defeat by Alcaraz at Roland Garros?
Panichi and Badio were both previously members of Novak Djokovic's crew, Badio from 2017 to 2022 and Panichi from 2019 to 2024. Because of their presence, Djokovic was able to keep his fitness levels up and prolong his career in order to surpass and break the record for the most grand slam titles and weeks spent at the top of the global rankings.
Since his return from suspension, Sinner has been reeling from two defeats to Carlos Alcaraz: first at the ATP Masters in Rome, where he made his comeback at home, and then in the epic five-set blockbuster at the French Open in Paris, where he missed match points. Sinner's preparation for Wimbledon was also not as expected, as he was defeated in the grass-court Halle Open by Kazakhstan's unpredictable Alexander Bublik, who ultimately won the competition.
The Italian has been given a fairly easy route through his draw, avoiding a terrible quarterfinal match against Djokovic, as he seeks his first Wimbledon championship, his fourth major triumph. The seven-time champion will be looking for revenge after losing each of the last four matches against his younger counterpart, but the Serb is still in Sinner's half of the draw. Both are looking at a potential final match against Alcaraz, the two-time reigning champion, in the final.
