New Delhi: The Delhi Premier League (DPL) is getting ready for its second season with two additional teams, and the players' auction on Sunday saw right-arm pacer Simarjeet Singh, who played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL this year, go for the highest price. He was hired by the Central Delhi Kings for ₹39 lakh.
Not far behind was leg-spinner Digvesh Rathi, who made a name for himself with the Lucknow Super Giants during this year's IPL. Delhi Superstarz paid ₹38 lakh for him, making him the second-most expensive acquisition in the marquee division. Prince Yadav, a right-arm pacer, was acquired by New Delhi Tigers for 33 lakh rupees, while Nitish Rana, a seasoned left-handed hitter, joined West Delhi Lions for 34 lakh rupees.
The North Delhi Strikers have retained Harshit Rana, while Old Delhi have kept star wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. East Delhi Riders, the defending champions, kept Anuj Rawat on their roster, while South Delhi Superstarz, the runners-up from last year, kept Ayush Badoni. The Central Delhi Kings maintained Jonty Sidhu, while the West Delhi Lions decided to keep their batsman Ayush Doseja.
In the draft, the two new franchises—Outer Delhi Warriors and New Delhi Tigers—kept Priyansh Arya and Himmat Singh, respectively.
After a heated bidding battle, East Delhi Riders used their Right to Match (RTM) card to keep Mayank Rawat, the star of the previous season's finale, for Rs 26 lakh. With a changed base price of ₹5 lakh, Vansh Bedi, who had previously gone unsold in the marquee sector, was brought back in the A category. Using their RTM, Purani Dilli hired him for Rs 16 lakh.
Through RTM, South Delhi kept wicketkeeper-batter Tejasvi Dahiya for INR 13.5 lakh, while Money Grewal was kept by Central Delhi Kings under the same clause. For ₹10 lakh, Ankit Kumar Rajesh was brought back to the West Delhi Lions using their RTM. Through RTM, the North Delhi Strikers kept Yajas Sharma for ₹12.5 lakh.
Central Delhi Kings purchased Virender Sehwag's eldest son, Aaryavir Sehwag, for ₹8 lakh. South Delhi Superstarz paid ₹1 lakh for Aryaveer Kohli, who is Virat Kohli's nephew.
