Jasprit Bumrah is eligible for selection for the second Test against England, which begins Wednesday, July 2, at Edgbaston, according to India captain Shubman Gill. The decision about whether or not he will participate will be made later in the day, after the team management has assessed the 22 yards that were distributed for the game. As previously stated, the 31-year-old will only participate in three of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Tests.

In the first game of the series in Headingley, Bumrah, who is rated as the top ICC Test bowler, bowled 43.4 overs. The other seamers—Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Shardul Thakur—were in the daylight between Bumrah. The other three pacers gave up runs at a rapid rate and failed to generate any form of pressure.

In the first innings, Bumrah captured five wickets, but in the second innings, he was unable to capture any. In the middle of the Test, Shubman Gill appeared to have handled Bumrah's workload, as he wasn't required to bowl even when England was 85 runs away from the goal of 371.

"Without a doubt, Bumrah is free. We must investigate this workload management. We must examine the last combination at the nets today, Gill said during the pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

In the first innings of the Headingly Test, Bumrah bowled 24.4 overs, and in the second, he bowled 19. He was urged to participate in all five tests after taking five wickets. Nevertheless, Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of India, dispelled all rumors, saying that there will be no change in plans because the pacer will only be participating in three games.

In reference to the same, Gill stated, "We knew prior to the series that we would get Jasprit for three games, but we had that sorted beforehand. Of course we would miss him, but we have our preparations in place.

As the management is taking it one game at a time and the scenario is still changing, Gill also stated that it is not predetermined which games Bumrah would participate in.

Workload management for Bumrah

The team management has been very cautious about managing Bumrah's workload ever since he suffered a back spasm during the Sydney Test against Australia.

Bumrah was unable to participate in the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 because of his back ailment. Additionally, he was not present for the first few games of the Mumbai Indians' Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

Bumrah disclosed in advance of the series against England that, following Rohit Sharma's retirement, he himself asked the BCCI to not consider him for Test captaincy because he would not be able to participate in all five Tests against England due to workload management.
