The Headingley Test between India and England might have any outcome on Day 5, and a spectacular conclusion is not out of the question. As they approached the last day of the first Test of the five-match series, both sides had a straightforward objective. England needed 350 additional runs to establish a 1-0 lead, while India needed 10 wickets to win. The visitors appeared rather apprehensive during the opening hour of the game as Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett saw off the new ball and provided little opportunity.

The Indian bowlers, especially Mohammed Siraj, were seen approaching the umpires to ask for a ball change as the wickets began to become hard to obtain. In the middle of the 14th over, Siraj requested a change of balls from the on-field umpires, Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney.

The umpires didn't think it necessary to replace the ball since it passed the ring test. Siraj was once again observed requesting that the umpires change the ball after the over was finished.

The outcome was, however, the same once more as the ball passed the ring test. The entire chain of events infuriated and frustrated KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Siraj.

After the third ball of the 22nd over, Shubman Gill once more went up to Chris Gaffaney. Nevertheless, the outcome was the same. The same procedure was carried out, and the result was the same: the ball cleared the ring test. The Headingley audience expressed their displeasure by booing as Shardul Thakur came over to the umpires two balls later.

The entire crowd erupted in cheers as soon as the ball went through the ring. Before the 27th over began, India was eventually successful in persuading the umpires.

The Indian fielders were already disappointed in the first inning when the on-field umpires rejected their repeated requests for a ball change.

Rishabh Pant got penalized

Rishabh Pant's punishment for voicing his displeasure with the on-field umpires' choice not to switch the ball was verified by the ICC on Tuesday morning.

The incident took place in the second half of the 61st over of England's first innings. The umpires saw no reason to alter the ball since it passed the ring test, but Pant requested a switch.

After hitting twin centuries in the Headingley Test, the India wicketkeeper then expressed his disagreement by tossing the ball on the ground in front of the umpires.

The match officials formally scolded Pant, and one demerit point was also added to his kitty. But he hasn't been assessed a penalty.

There was no need for an official hearing because Pant acknowledged his wrongdoing and agreed to the penalty put forth by Richie Richardson of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.

In the Headingley Test, England scored 21/0 at the conclusion of Day 4, and the home team still needs 350 runs to win. Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul both hit centuries for India in the second innings, which contributed to the visitors' total of 371.
