Shubman Gill Gets Full Freedom as Test Captain, Says Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah, who is undoubtedly the most significant match-winner on the current Indian Test team, stated that he would not "jump in" to give suggestions to newcomer Test captain Shubman Gill, but that he would be available whenever Gill needed him. Bumrah also admitted that he would be the first choice for the captaincy if it weren't for workload management. The five-match Test series against England, which will begin on June 20 in Leeds, will signal the start of a new chapter in Indian cricket following the retirement of three legends: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin.
Gill will serve as one of the flagbearers of the modern Indian squad, along with vice-captain Rishabh Pant. Only KL Rahul and Bumrah have captained India in a Test match before among the seasoned players in the current lineup. In reality, the selectors' initial pick to replace Rohit was Bumrah; however, he stated that he called the board to discuss his workload management, which prevents him from assuming the Test team's full-time captaincy.
In three Tests played away from home, Bumrah captained India. When Rohit was sidelined by Covid, the first one took place in England. That Test was won by India. When Rohit skipped the first Test in Australia due to the birth of his second child, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy marked the next phase in Bumrah's captaincy. India took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series thanks to Bumrah's leadership. He returned as captain for the final Test in the Sydney Test, but sadly, a stress injury to his back forced him to miss the second innings for a few months.

'Won't jump in to give suggestions to Shubman Gill': Jasprit Bumrah
That injury made Bumrah abandon his ambition of being India's permanent Test captain. Bumrah stated that he believes in giving freedom to the leader when former teammate Dinesh Karthik asked him what role he would play in guiding Gill against England.
"In my experience, you have to be there for him and give him space." This means that I am available to him in any way he may require. I don't want to jump in, and if I notice anything, I may offer a gentle suggestion. But I want to play cricket that way; that's how I've done it. I wish for someone to be free. "I want the individual to be free-thinking and to act as he wishes," he stated on SKY Sports.
Gill has captained the Gujarat Titans in two IPL seasons, but he has not yet done so in the longer format. It's clear that he thinks things through. He is vibrant and youthful. That is what he desires. And that is the way it ought to be. I'm always there to support him whenever he approaches me or discusses anything with me. I'm also more than willing to provide him whatever he requires from me.
Like Gill, head coach Gautam Gambhir will be in the spotlight as he prepares a new squad. Bumrah stated that Gambhir prefers to communicate with players one-on-one and is not very talkative.
"He's very individualistic. He doesn't engage in big discussions. He won't be holding a large meeting. However, he'll engage in one-on-one conversations with individuals where he thinks he should intervene or where he believes they are heading in that way. He also offers two pieces of advice. "I think he's dealing with a different, intriguing stage in Indian cricket," stated Bumrah.
"Two tours ago, our squad was entirely distinct. At the moment, it's moving toward a transition. Clearly, it's a fascinating time, and you need a lot more tolerance and serenity.
