Shubman Gill Embarrassed as India Captain Criticizes Players Over Slow Field Reset
4 months ago | 5 Views
During the first session of the first day of the Lord's Test, India captain Shubman Gill experienced a somewhat humorous turn of events. Gill missed a beautiful opportunity in the gully just after being heard on the stump mic expressing his displeasure about field placements.
Nitish Kumar Reddy caused one to wobble off the seam and entice Ollie Pope into a loose drive off the batter's very first delivery in the 14th over of the innings. Gill, who was positioned in the gully, threw himself to his right but was only able to reach it with one hand. Despite the difficulty, replays indicated that using both hands may have made the attempt simpler. Recognizing the lost chance right away, the Indian captain put his hands on his head.
In a further twist, Gill was energetically directing the field in front of the delivery using stump mic audio, perhaps even speaking to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. He vent his anger and begged the fielders to get back to their places right away.
However, Nitish Reddy made sure that the anger caused by the fall didn't linger. Nitish had previously rejected Ben Duckett in the over, but on the last ball, he dismissed Zak Crawley, saving what might have been a momentum-sapping moment and eliciting ecstatic applause.
A possible frustrating passage for India was transformed into a turning point by Reddy's two-hit in one over. The 22-year-old Reddy disrupted Duckett and Crawley's otherwise calm demeanor in spectacular fashion. After Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, and Mohammed Siraj had all troubled the openers but were unable to break through, the all-rounder was the fourth bowler Gill used in just 14 overs.
The decision was made for England to bat
On a nice-looking Lord's pitch, England chose to bat first after winning the toss. In the play's opening, the bounce was rather low; in fact, right after the fourth ball of the match, Bumrah instructed Rishabh Pant to approach the stumps.
Additionally, earlier in the day, cricket great Sachin Tendulkar rang the legendary Lord's bell for the first time in his career. The third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, in which the series is now tied at 1-1, began with the bell ringing.
