Shreyas Iyer had trouble sleeping after his big inning of 87 not out against Mumbai Indians on Sunday in Ahmedabad. His performance helped Punjab Kings reach their first IPL final in 11 years. However, he said he still feels restless because the biggest match of the season is next. Punjab will face Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

With help from Josh Inglis, Priyansh Arya, and Nehal Wadhera, Iyer played a perfect innings. His effort allowed Mumbai to lose the second IPL 2025 Qualifier. Punjab chased down 204 runs with one over to spare.

Before the final in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, Iyer talked about being in the zone during the match. He explained that this started the day before, from his warm-up until he hit the last six. But he still isn’t satisfied because the job isn’t finished.

“When I say I was in the zone, I mean from before the match. It begins during warm-up and how I prepare myself. Once I was focused, I knew how to lead the team. We did a great job restricting them to 203. I had a plan for playing on that red soil. Our openers gave us a good start, and Josh came in at No. 3, so I knew I’d get some time. When my eyes were set, I focused on flowing with my instincts. I am happy, but not happy enough,” he said.

Iyer also mentioned how he barely slept after the game ended around 1:40 in the morning. He said he only got four hours of sleep before starting the pre-final tasks, like the press conference.

“I couldn’t sleep. I got just four hours last night, and now I’m here. I went to my room, and next thing I knew, I was doing the press,” he explained.

Punjab finished top of the league but lost to RCB in the first Qualifier last Thursday in Chandigarh. They lost by eight wickets. That was their second straight loss to RCB at the same venue. Despite having a five-day break, RCB has the edge. Punjab will try to even the score in the final on Tuesday.
