The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad belonged to RCB on the night of their victory over the Punjab Kings by six runs, giving Royal Challengers Bangalore supporters their first IPL championship ever after years of close calls. Given that the game appeared to be over and done by the time the last over started, that margin of victory is a little flattering for PBKS. However, it also demonstrates an amazing effort by Shashank Singh, who fought valiantly to score 61*(30) and help his side salvage some pride and gain some confidence from a sad evening.

When 29 were needed off Josh Hazlewood, Shashank scored 22 off the final 4 balls of the innings as a result of his hard work. It was nevertheless remarkable to face a top fast bowler, even if these attempts were unsuccessful. The effort took a toll on Shashank, who was seen by TV cameras in tears and in pieces after the last ball of the innings, as he saw wickets falling at the other end and ran out of teammates. The PBKS vice-captain was overcome by emotion, even though he had hit a stunning six over extra cover.

As the emotions overwhelmed him at the conclusion of a campaign that Punjab will remember fondly, but also in a bittersweet way as they fell just short at the final hurdle, Shashank had to pause and kneel on the pitch amidst the boisterous festivities from the RCB dugout and their devoted supporters in the stands.

Against RCB, Punjab's chase runs out of steam.

As openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya established a partnership while chasing 191 in Ahmedabad, Punjab's innings appeared to be off to a strong start. But the door for RCB to retaliate was opened when Priyansh's wicket was taken as Phil Salt made a fantastic catch at the boundary. Within two overs, Prabhsimran and captain Shreyas Iyer's wickets fell, and a few overs later, Krunal Pandya put an end to Josh Inglis' threatening knock.

Shashank maintained PBKS in the game by entering in the 13th over, but Nehal Wadhera's poor performance at the other end slowed the chase. In spite of Shashank blasting a pair of massive sixes against Hazlewood, their top bowler, in his penultimate over, RCB could almost smell the IPL trophy after Bhuvneshwar Kumar's dismissal of Wadhera and Marcus Stoinis in the same over.

Yash Dayal's 18th over only produced 5 runs, which gave RCB a strong advantage to win from that point, and in the end, Shashank was unable to capitalize on the strike at the conclusion.
