The 2025 ESPY Awards are scheduled to occur in a few weeks, and actor-comedian Shane Gillis has been hired to host them. The event, which honors the previous year in sports, is slated to take place on July 16 at The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, USA Today reports.

The well-known Netflix series Tires' creator and star has been called a big sports enthusiast. According to Craig Lazarus, vice president of ESPN and executive producer of the ESPYS, Gillis is a "huge sports fan" and among the best comedians of today, which made him an "easy choice" to host the event.

Along with fellow comedian Matt McCusker, Gillis co-hosts Matt and Shane's Secret Podcast, and he has also starred with Peyton Manning and Post Malone in a Super Bowl commercial.

He is a former walk-on at Elon University and was previously recruited by the Army. Gillis also enjoys college football and is a passionate supporter of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

In advance of the College Football Playoff's first-round contest between Notre Dame and Indiana in December of last year, Shane Gillis made an appearance on "College GameDay" as the celebrity guest selector.

In his performance, he gave a little jab to Nick Saban, the former coach of Alabama and now a show analyst. Since athletes were able to be paid, Gillis claimed that the Fighting Irish had a chance of winning.
