Shahid Afridi & Ajay Devgn at WCL 2025? The Truth About Those Viral Pics
4 months ago | 5 Views
The World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 is still the subject of a major dispute between India and Pakistan, according to its organizers. On Sunday, July 20, the legends from both sides were scheduled to square off in Edgbaston, Birmingham. On the day of the game, though, the event was canceled due to public outrage on social media. Following the tragic Pahalgam terrorist attack, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists, some Indian supporters questioned the former cricketers of the nation about their choice to compete against Pakistan.
It has to be noted that the T20 competition is co-owned by Bollywood performer Ajay Devgn. The tournament's debut edition last year even saw him at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
The game could have been canceled, but now fans are venting their rage at Ajay Devgn for allegedly interacting with Shahid Afridi of Pakistan Champions on the sidelines of the event.
Despite Afridi's disparaging comments against the Indian Army earlier this year, the uber-popular actor's interaction with him is causing outrage among fans.
What is the reality behind these viral photographs?
Shahid Afridi did meet and speak with Ajay Devgn, but not in 2025. That is indeed the case. Last year, when Ajay Devgn traveled to Edgbaston to witness the tournament firsthand during its inaugural iteration, the two engaged.
The first edition of the tournament culminated with a match between India and Pakistan, which India won.
A number of former Indian cricketers, such as Shikhar Dhawan, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, and Suresh Raina, withdrew from the game against Pakistan on the eve of the match in the World Championship of Legends 2025 tournament.
On May 11, Shikhar Dhawan informed the organizers of his decision not to participate in the game against Pakistan.
The game was canceled, the organizers announced on Sunday morning, and they also expressed regret for offending the public's sensibilities.
In their formal statement, they said, "Once more, we sincerely apologize for hurting the sentiments, and we hope that people would understand that all we ever wanted was to bring a few happy moments to the fans."
With the opening match between the England Champions and the Pakistan Champions, the 2025 edition of WCL began on July 18.
On Tuesday, July 21, India Champions will then face off against South Africa Champions.
