Sanctions Blitz: BCCI Targets Iyer and Punjab Kings, Drops Hammer on Pandya

Following the pair's conviction of violating the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Code of Conduct during Qualifier 2 at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) severely punished Punjab Kings' and Mumbai Indians' captains Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya. Because both teams kept a sluggish over rate, Shreyas and Hardik Pandya were fined.

The Punjab Kings have been convicted of keeping a slow-over rate for the second time in the 18th season of the T20 league. For this reason, Shreyas Iyer has been fined INR 24 lakh.

The remaining players for the PBKS will be assessed a penalty of either 25% of their match costs or INR 6 lakh, whichever is less.

Iyer received a punishment of INR 24 lakhs since it was his team's second violation of the IPL's Code of Conduct pertaining to minimum over-rate infractions, according to a formal statement from the BCCI.

"The remaining members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakh or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is less," the statement continued.

Hardik Pandya receives a INR 30 lakh fine

For the third time in the 18th season of the IPL, the Mumbai Indians kept a low over-rate. The primary reason Hardik Pandya was ordered to pay a fine of INR 30 lakh is because of this. In the IPL 2025 season, no captain has ever had to pay a higher penalty than this.

The BCCI announcement stated that Pandya was fined INR 30 lakh for his team's third violation of the IPL's Code of Conduct pertaining to minimum over-rate offences this season.

The remaining members of the Mumbai Indians' squad, including the impact player, have been penalized between INR 12 lakh and 50% of their match costs.

"The remaining members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually penalized either INR 12 lakh or 50% of their respective match fees, whichever is less," the BCCI stated.

When it comes to Qualifier 2, the Punjab Kings defeated their opponent by chasing down 204 with six balls remaining and five wickets in hand. On Tuesday, June 3, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the Shreyas Iyer-led team will now play RCB in the IPL 2025 final.
