In the first innings of the Edgbaston Test against England, legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar gave Mohammed Siraj high marks for his outstanding performance. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, the top pacer led the charge of the Indian bowling attack and excelled in the position, taking six wickets. While everyone else was discussing Bumrah's absence, Siraj lifted his hand and used the ball to break apart the English batting lineup. On a level surface, the English hitters struggled to handle him because he was disciplined with the new ball and pitched in the proper spots to give them problems.
After Siraj grabbed a six-fer, Tendulkar heaped accolades on his precision and consistency at Edgbaston.
"The most significant shift I've seen in Siraj is his increased precision and consistency in placing the ball in the proper spots. Six of his wickets have come as a result of his perseverance. Akash Deep provides excellent support. Congratulations!," Tendulkar posted on X.
Prior to the game, Siraj was the subject of intense scrutiny, with several commentators even questioning his spot in the XI following Leeds' subpar performance. However, the 31-year-old answered his critics in Edgbaston.
Mohammed Siraj maintained his composure and focused on his goal, even though the massive 303-run partnership between Harry Brook (158) and Jamie Smith (184*), which had briefly swung the momentum in England's favor. The pacer demonstrated his talent and composure by quickly bringing the tail to a conclusion with the second new ball in his possession. In a decisive move, he removed Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, and Shoaib Bashir, which brought a halt to England's attack and guaranteed that India retook control at a pivotal point in the game.
The 'special partnership' between Brook and Smith is lauded by Tendulkar
The legendary Indian batsman also complimented England's batting pair of Harry Brook and Jamie Smith for their outstanding centuries, which brought the home team back into the contest.
"Special partnership between Brook and Smith who were under pressure and counterattacked beautifully to bring England much closer to India's total than one would have expected," he continued.
With a series-leveling victory in sight, India ended Day 3 at 64 for 1 under cloudy skies, increasing their lead to 244 runs and establishing a strong position in the game. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the only casualty in the last session, tumbling after a quick 28. KL Rahul was still on 28* at the stumps, with Karun Nair by his side on 7*. The visitors are in a strong position to set the agenda and strive for a win, as there are still two whole days left.
