It appeared that the World was at its wits end when Laura Siegemund and Aryna Sabalenka started their first quarterfinal match of the Wimbledon 2025 women's singles competition. No. 1 just wasn't able to do anything well. In addition to her shots missing their intended target, Siegemund also forced Sabalenka to run around the court before hitting a winner that Sabalenka had no chance of returning.

At first glance, it would appear that Sabalenka recovered her composure after losing the opening set. However, Siegemund caused her to sweat in the literal sense, so it was not the case. Sabalenka was clearly annoyed by her mistakes and Siegemund's cheeky winners, and at one point, it seemed improbable that she would live and advance to the semifinals. However, she prevailed, winning with a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

In the second quarter-final, Amanda Anisimova defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova's tenacious challenge to win 6-1 7-6. This is Anisimova's fourth win over Pavlyuchenkova. It also represents her first semi-final appearance since her little hiatus from the sport, during which she took a break to deal with mental health issues and burnout fears. This is Anisimova's debut semi-final appearance at Wimbledon.

Sabalenka vs Anisimova head-to-head

Sabalenka will now play Anisimova in the first semi-final on July 10. The duo has, incidentally, played each other 8 times so far, with Anisimova holding a 5:3 advantage over the World No.1. Their most recent encounter was at the French Open 2025 quarter-final, where Sabalenka prevailed. They’ve played each other largely on clay or hard court surfaces, making this semi-final a first on grass.

The exact schedule of the semi-final match is yet to be ascertained, but rest assured it will be the first match on July 10. Live telecast of the match will be available on Star Sports 2, while the digital stream is on JioHotstar, which can be accessed through an OTTplay Premium subscription.
