Rohit Sharma's Personal Request Leads to T Dilip's Return as Fielding Coach

Rohit Sharma's Personal Request Leads to T Dilip's Return as Fielding Coach

According to a Cricbuzz report, T Dilip, India's former fielding coach, is about to rejoin the national squad, and the move is not just the board's choice but also supported by Rohit Sharma himself. According to the report, the senior batter ‘personally requested’ Gautam Gambhir and the BCCI to rethink their position on Dilip, which led to the Hyderabad-based coach being given a one-year extension.

Just a few weeks after his departure had been deemed conclusive, Dilip will now be a part of the Indian team for their forthcoming trip to England. Dilip, batting coach Abhishek Nayar, and some other members of the support team were initially informed that their services would no longer be needed after May. According to reports, Gambhir favored a smaller backroom staff, and the BCCI informed that the contracts would not be renewed as part of a shift in that direction.

Given how closely Dilip and Nayar collaborated with Rohit Sharma, the ouster had raised eyebrows. Dilip's case took an unexpected turn as Nayar returned to his position with IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders. In talks with Gambhir and high-ranking board members, Rohit is said to have advocated for Dilip's return, even though he has since retired from Test cricket. It appears that his demand was too important to ignore.

In the Indian dressing room, Dilip is well-known for his methodical approach and his concentration on drills related to the game. With both Rohit and Virat Kohli announcing earlier this month that they were retiring from Test cricket, his return is viewed as a calming step for a squad that is going through a major shift. With Ravichandran Ashwin's retirement from the format in December of the previous year, this left the Indian squad without its three stalwarts for the next Test series against England.

Ten Doeschate, who was expected to take over as fielding coach, will remain in his position as assistant coach, which is intriguing. Dilip is able to maintain his well-known role as a result of this.

The Indian A team arrives in England

In the meantime, the India A squad, which includes a number of Test candidates, has arrived in Kent to compete against England Lions in its red-ball series. All players have checked in before the first unofficial Test, which begins May 30, with the exception of Akash Deep, who is anticipated soon. The senior Indian Test team is scheduled to depart from Mumbai on June 6.

Sai Sudharsan is anticipated to travel to England after the IPL, but Gill is said to have pulled out of the second unofficial multi-day contest. The 'A' team will be captained by Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is also a member of India's Test team for the England series.
