Rohit Sharma ‘Offended’ by Ex-Selector’s Test Loyalty Remark

Rohit Sharma is one of the most well-liked contemporary hitters in Indian cricket. Although his finesse and timing have made him one of the best hitters in all formats, Rohit's career in Test cricket has always come to a conclusion that seems incomplete, while his accomplishments in white-ball cricket have been well established for a long time.

The abruptness of Rohit's retirement from Test cricket before the England series took many people off guard, especially since it occurred without a farewell match or a prolonged decline in his physical condition. Despite the fact that his red-ball stats never quite lived up to his white-ball reputation, many believed that the India skipper still had a lot to contribute in the longest format.

Former India selector Jatin Paranjpe was among those who were taken aback by the choice. He has since provided insight into the mentality of a young player who aspired to play for the squad in every format.

"I remember he wasn't playing Test cricket for India." In an episode of A Centuries of Stories, Paranjpe stated, "I started playing cricket with a red ball, Jatin. How can you say that I am not interested in Test cricket?'" I understood the message and hoped that this is what he would say.

Indeed, when Cyrus Brocha, the interviewer, later in the same interview, asked Paranjpe whether Rohit was "offended" by the question about his red-ball priorities, Paranjpe nodded. "Yes, yes. I was compelled to stop and consider by the viewpoint he offered me. From his perspective, he wondered, "How can I be far away from the red ball when I've grown up playing with it?" "That's again his unique perspective," the former selector remembered.

Rohit's comeback in the Test

Due to injuries and inconsistent form, Rohit had spent years attempting to break into India's Test lineup on a regular basis. However, in 2019, everything changed when Ravi Shastri supported him as an opener. With that one strategic shift, Rohit's red-ball career was revived, and India now has one of its most composed Test openers at the top. Paranjpe gave Shastri credit for the idea.

The crucial moment is now. I recall being a member of the selection committee then. That was Ravi Shastri's concept. An excellent thinker. When it comes to reading the game, Ravi is three to four steps ahead of the competition, he claimed.

Currently, Rohit continues to captain India in the ODI format, which is the only one he participates in. Right now, Rohit's next match for India will be in October, when the squad travels to Australia for a three-ODI series.
