In New York, during the T20 World Cup 2024, who can forget the thrilling, high-octane game between India and Pakistan? In a game played in Nassau County, New York, India defended a subpar total of 119 runs against its archrival, with Rohit Sharma leading the team to a six-run victory. Just days before the one-year anniversary of the T20 World Cup victory, Rohit Sharma spoke out about the game against Pakistan, saying that there was a "threat" prior to the match.

Due to the threat, Rohit Sharma also stated that his team was not permitted to leave their hotel rooms. He then described how the hotel was crowded with supporters from India and Pakistan, making it difficult to enter the building, as well as how the athletes were ordering meals.

India trailed for most of the game against Pakistan. But India's well-known return was led by Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah.

We were informed of a danger before the India versus Pakistan match; something was happening. As a result, we were prohibited from leaving the hotel two days before the match. From that point on, the mood began to develop, Rohit stated on JioHotstar.

"The hotel was so crowded that it was hard to move, and we were ordering food in. The media, the fans — everyone was there. At that moment, you understand that this is no ordinary game; something extraordinary is about to occur. Even before we were close to the stadium, it felt like a party with supporters from India and Pakistan dancing and having a great time, he said.

T20 World Cup: 'Sore' Rohit Sharma fine, but concerns raised over pitch safety ahead of India-Pakistan clash in New York

'It was something different'

The experience of competing against Pakistan in New York is incomparable, according to Rohit, who has played in many games against the nation. The atmosphere was electric, with great enthusiasm from both sides of the rivalry.

“I’ve played so many India–Pakistan games now — I’ve lost count — but that pre-match energy, that feeling… It’s always something else. It is unmatched, according to Rohit Sharma.

India batted first in the game against Pakistan and was bowled out for 119 in 19 overs. With a score of 42 runs off 31 balls, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who batted at number three, was the game's leading scorer.

Regarding Pant's knock, Rohit stated, "We just wanted Rishabh to be Rishabh—to play freely, do all the things he does best, and upset the bowlers. And he did it flawlessly. On that surface, his innings of about 42 was equivalent to hitting 70.

Jasprit Bumrah then made a comeback with three wickets, contributing to India's remarkable six-run victory over Pakistan. Arshdeep Singh maintained a frugal approach as well, restricting Babar Azam and his teammates.

"You must use Bumrah proactively. Not only does he take wickets, but he also doesn't let runs slip through. In light of the opposition's chase at a run-a-ball, how can you strike a balance? Rohit Sharma stated that Arshdeep has also been outstanding.

"Over the last two years, there's a reason he's become India's highest wicket-taker in T20Is — he's a really smart bowler. So, with both of them, my focus was on how to use their remaining overs strategically," he said.
