On Tuesday, former India coaches Ravi Shastri and Bharat Arun shared a previously untold tale about Mohammed Shami, explaining how his then-anger had sparked one of his finest performances, which eventually propelled the squad to victory against South Africa in Johannesburg. Shami's five-wicket haul led India to a 63-run victory in the 2018 match, which they completed in under four days.

It was the series' last Test encounter against South Africa. The hosts secured the trophy by winning the first two games. The Proteas were close to completing a whitewash in Johannesburg on the fourth day of the match, needing 223 runs and having eight wickets in hand.

With seven wickets in hand, the deficit had decreased to 171 runs by lunchtime. Shastri remembered seeing Shami's plate full of biriyani when he passed him in an interview with Sony Sports.

"It was Johannesburg. Last day. That game had plenty of heat. They required 240 runs to win the match on the last day, and they had already scored 100. With eight wickets remaining. It was lunchtime, and I was passing Shami's dish. "He had a massive helping of biryani there," he stated.

Arun, the former bowling coach of India, disclosed that Shastri inquired of the experienced bowler whether he was satisfied after eating the biryani.

"Ravi approached him and inquired, 'Is your stomach full after eating the biryani?'"

However, Shami angrily refused the plate of biryani, claiming he didn't want to eat it. Arun further stated that Shastri told him to let Shami be and that if he wanted to chat to him, he should instruct him to take wickets instead.

"Le le plate. I don't want the biryani; throw the biryani away. ," Shastri stated. "It can go to hell."

Arun continued, "Ravi approached me and said, 'Woh (Shami) gussa hai, usko aise he chod doh.' 'Agar kuch baat karna hai toh bolo, thodo wicket leke mujhe batao'." It's one thing to be furious, but it's quite another to express that anger in your bowling.

'Humko hamesha gussa karao...'

In the final innings, Shami wreaked havoc, taking five wickets while the last seven South African batters scored only 22 runs between them. Shami grinned and recommended that they always make him angry when Arun at last gave him that same plate of biriyani following his heroic deeds.

"Game over. He approached, and Arun told him, "biryani le, ab jitna khaana hai, khaa le" (Take the biryani, eat as much as you want). Make me angry all the time, and then I get well. "Typical Shami," Shastri remarked.
