The stampede that occurred outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 4, during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's celebration of their IPL trophy triumph, left former India captain Rahul Dravid feeling "disappointed" and "heartbroken." After 18 years of waiting, the RCB finally won an IPL title on June 3 by defeating the Punjab Kings by six runs in the championship game in Ahmedabad.

More than 250,000 people congregated inside and outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in order to get a peek of their favorite celebrities in celebration of the first IPL championship victory. Nevertheless, the joy turned into sorrow when the stampede claimed the lives of eleven people and injured more than fifty others.

The former Indian cricketer from Bengaluru expressed his condolences for the tragic incident in an interview with NDTV, saying that it was awful considering the city's strong sporting background.

"Really unfortunate." It's really depressing. Bengaluru is a city with a strong love for sports. I'm a native of this place. Over here, folks enjoy all sports, not just cricket. They keep up with all the sports and all the sports teams, whether they are a kabaddi or football team. The fact that this awful incident occurred is really heartbreaking. We extend our sympathies to all those who were sadly killed or injured. "Dravid stated. "It shouldn't have been such a tragedy."

The interim relief requested by an RCB officer was denied by the Karnataka High Court.

In the wake of the catastrophe, A Shankar and E S Jairam accepted "moral responsibility" for the event and resigned from their respective roles as secretary and treasurer of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

But on June 6, Nikhil Sosale, the marketing manager for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, was taken into custody. The Karnataka High Court rejected his request for interim relief on Tuesday. Sosale argued in his petition that his arrest was unlawful, claiming that the police decision was motivated by political commands.

The Karnataka High Court had previously ordered authorities to refrain from using any coercive measures against RCB and event partner DNA Entertainment Pvt Ltd until June 12.
