In the match against the Punjab Kings, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, had made it clear prior to the start of the IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad that he would be supporting the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Additionally, his exuberant rejoicing when the wickets in Punjab fell could have made it more obvious.

Sunak, who was having a serious discussion with ICC chairman Jay Shah in the stands, couldn't contain his excitement on Tuesday when Krunal Pandya struck the decisive blow of taking the wicket of opening batsman Prabhsimran Singh on the third ball of the ninth over. As RCB took their second wicket while defending 191 in Ahmedabad, he kept cheering by pumping his fists.

In an interview with the Times of India prior to the championship, Sunak stated that he would be rooting for the RCB because of his wife, Akshata Murty, and her ties to Bengaluru. "RCB is my team because I'm married into a Bangalore family," he said. "I used to support them on Downing Street, but we went to games a long time ago."

Additionally, Sunak confessed to being amazed by the electric audience at the Narendra Modi Stadium. "This is amazing, this is absolutely electric, this is my first time here, the crowd is incredible, I have never experienced cricket like this," he said to interviewers at the stadium following the conclusion of the RCB's batting.

Earlier in the evening, Bengaluru struggled to put scoreboard pressure on a favorable surface, managing just 190 for nine. The fourth-time finalists chasing their first championship were a little cautious in the big final, and luck wasn't on their side either, as every one of their hitters died after getting a start.
