Pujara Points Out Major Flaw in Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Batting, Warns England to Be Patient
5 months ago | 5 Views
In the first few overs of an innings, experienced Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has provided useful advice on how bowlers may attack the in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal. The 23-year-old opener set Edgbaston on fire with a stunning 87 off 107 deliveries, which included 13 boundaries. The innings was remarkable, even in comparison to Shubman Gill's dominating undefeated century.
Jaiswal was brought down by a critical delivery from Chris Woakes, 13 runs short of completing his sixth Test century. After being fired, Pujara said that left-handers are more vulnerable in that area if bowlers consistently maintain a good length outside off stump and stay patient.
"You have to bowl the right length, around off-stump, on a good length. Keep doing that and wait for him to make a mistake," Pujara advised Sony Sports.
The pair put together a vital 99-run partnership, with Indian captain Shubman Gill scoring a patient century at the other end, his unbroken 114 coming off 216 deliveries with 12 boundaries, while Ravindra Jadeja played a steady hand with a composed 41 off 67 balls, including five boundaries.
'JAISWAL DOESN'T MISS OPPORTUNITIES'
After 85 overs, India scored a first-day run total of 310/5 at Stumps, thanks to the left-handed Indian opener Jaiswal, who held the first innings at Edgbaston.
As a seasoned player with 103 Tests under his belt, Pujara observed that Jaiswal had a shaky start to his debut day, but he later adapted to the English assault.
To this, Pujara said, "At first it seemed like he was trying too hard to play shots, but the kind of strokes he played were outstanding once he settled down." After that first half hour, he has full command. Because he doesn't miss scoring chances, it's quite challenging for a bowling team.
"He drives well if you raise the pitch. He cuts well if it's short outside off-stump. He pulls with assurance when you use bumpers. Against him, the margin of error for bowlers is very minimal.
With a fantastic average of 64, Yashasvi Jaiswal has thus far amassed 192 runs. He scored a century in the previous Test, totaling 101 in the first innings. However, Jaiswal came under fire for his poor fielding miscues, which contributed to India's five-wicket loss.
