The name of Prithvi Shaw has often come up in the news during the past few years for factors that are unrelated to his skills as a cricketer. Although the opener did exhibit flashes of brilliance during his tenure with the Delhi Capitals, his erratic play on the field and ongoing off-field issues have outweighed those performances. Eventually, that tale caught up with Shaw, and he was completely unsold at the IPL 2025 auction, losing his spot in the Capitals team. Since then, his only notable performances have been in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for domestic cricket, where he represented Mumbai.

Arjun Tendulkar, Shaw's childhood buddy and the son of Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, was still on the Mumbai Indians' roster, but he didn't play in a single game during IPL 2025. In the local circuit, Arjun has relocated to Goa and played for the team in the just finished Ranji Trophy season.

Shaw expressed an ambitious Team India aspiration for himself and Arjun as he prepares for a comeback in the next home season. When asked in an interview with News24 if he pictures himself and Arjun playing for India, with you as an opener and Arjun as an opening bowler, Shaw responded that he does. "Indeed." He responds, "Why not?"

But when questioned about Arjun's IPL experience, Shaw acknowledged that it would have been preferable if he had participated in more matches. "One could only realize how skilled and talented someone is by playing," Shaw stated.

A World Cup dream

One of Shaw's goals is to raise the World Cup with India, he added. The opener last played for the national team in 2021, during India's restricted-overs trip to Sri Lanka, but he maintains that he would now concentrate on his training and preparation in anticipation of a comeback.

“One of my objectives is for India to win the World Cup. Both the World Cups, ODIs, and T20s. I will have the next World Cups in mind and get ready for them," said Shaw.
