Prithvi Shaw Reflects on Poor Choices: Practice Time Halved Due to Wrong Company
5 months ago | 5 Views
In the past, Prithvi Shaw was hailed as the future of Indian cricket, but now the young right-handed batsman is not even considered for the national senior squad. The batter was not even included in Mumbai's playing XI for the Ranji Trophy, and months later, he was not selected for the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad. After several months, the 25-year-old has at last discussed the difficult period of his career, admitting that he was "distracted."
In 2018, Shaw played in his first Test match, where he hit 134 in his debut innings. Shortly after, Ravi Shastri, who was then the head coach, famously said that Prithvi Shaw is a mix of Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, and Virender Sehwag.
The mega auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 didn't even include a bid from Shaw last year. Despite a number of injuries throughout many clubs, he remained unsold, and then, no franchise even selected him as a replacement player.
"There are several factors." People see it differently. Since I am aware of what has transpired. I get it. Throughout my life, I have made several poor choices. I began spending less time on cricket. I used to practice frequently. For instance, I used to practice batting in nets for three to four hours. I used to spend half the day on the ground, but I never grew bored of hitting. I agree there was a distraction," Shaw informed News24.
"I then began to regard as vital what was not required. I made some bad friends. Since I was in charge at the time. Additionally, friendships are established. After that, they took me around. All of it. After that, I fled the track. I used to spend eight hours practicing on the ground. He continued, "It's been four hours.
"I had a family issue"
Prithvi Shaw, who recently applied to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for a No-Objection Certificate in order to play for a different state, also mentioned that he was preoccupied by a family issue.
He shared how he experienced a low period following his grandfather's death. "There are a lot of things. There's more to it than that. I had a problem with my family. My grandpa had passed away. I loved him dearly. There are many things that I am unable to share with you. Nevertheless, I can sense it.
"I acknowledge my errors. However, my father has always stood by me." Regardless of how horrible my experience was. He said that he has experienced the highs and lows.
Despite having previously shared the locker room with legends like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Prithvi Shaw said that no senior player approached him during his worst moments. But he continued, saying that Rishabh Pant has kept in touch with him all along.
Since no IPL franchise selected him during the IPL super auction, Prithvi Shaw stated that he was "mentally prepared" and not surprised by this.
For India, Prithvi Shaw has played five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I. He has been granted the No-Objection Certificate to quit Mumbai cricket, so he will now be representing a different state.
I've returned to the fundamentals and am currently on the right course. I believe I have resumed the rigorous labor that I was doing five years ago. I have faith in my abilities. I don't know how many people have faith in me, but I do. I know how to get there. The reason for all this is that," Shaw stated.
"However, there is one thing my father has said. Prithvi Shaw is the only person who can bring himself back to that place. Nobody else can. As a result, I have abandoned everything, he said.
