In the second Test against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka maintained his excellent batting form and hit a fantastic hundred. The classy right-hander has started the new World Test Championship cycle in stunning style, scoring back-to-back centuries to take the lead in the run-scoring standings. The 27-year-old had an amazing performance in the first Test in Galle, scoring 187 runs. He maintained his dominance in Colombo, where he remained undefeated at stumps on Day 2 with 146 runs.

The 27-year-old has now scored four Test centuries, continuing to take advantage of his strong vein of form and maximize the second chance he has been given in the Test set-up.

After his career-high 187 in the drawn first test at Galle last week, Nissanka was perfect on Day 2, scoring an undefeated 146 off 238 balls that included 18 fours.

As Sri Lanka gained total dominance over the match, he and Dinesh Chandimal combined to score a 194-run stand for the second wicket, which kept the Bangladeshi bowlers at bay. Bangladesh, growing increasingly frustrated by their inability to get a wicket, resorted to defensive field positions and negative bowling lines. But Chandimal and Nissanka reacted masterfully, unleashing a barrage of reverse sweeps that put the heat squarely back on the bowlers. Shortly after the tea break, Nissanka brought up his fourth Test hundred with a spectacular backfoot-driven boundary off Rana. The milestone also included his eleventh score of fifty or more in only his eighteenth Test match.

Nissanka was hyped by the X audience and placed him in the discussion for the greatest all-format opener right now, along with Ben Duckett, who just smashed 149 against India in Leeds.

In fading light, Chandimal attempted to reverse sweep Nayeem Hasan and gloved a simple catch to wicketkeeper Litton Das when he was just seven runs short of a century, 93 off 153 balls. In the 90s, Chandimal was sacked for the first time. After the tea break, Nissanka scored his fourth Test century in fine form, hitting a backfoot-driven boundary against Rana. In his 18th Test appearance, it was also his 11th time scoring 50 or more.

Sri Lanka was in a lot of trouble after losing two wickets at stumps and having a comfortable 46-run lead.

Earlier, Sri Lanka bowled out the visitors for 247, with debutant Sonal Dinusha taking 3-22.

The day started for Bangladesh at 220-8, and Taijul, who had been batting overnight, was the final player to be dismissed after 8.3 overs when he was caught by Dinusha's left-arm spin for 33 runs.
