Pant’s Smart Strategy Disrupts Ben Stokes, Sparks Dismissal as Psychological Battle Unfolds on Stump Mic

Throughout the three days of play in Leeds, Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has been using his mind games discreetly, whether with the bat or from behind the stumps. On Day 3, a day after social media users shared on X with the caption "Peak mind games, peak Rishabh Panti, peak Test cricket!" a different ruse was revealed, this time captured by the broadcasters themselves.

Ravindra Jadeja bowled a ball on Sunday during the fourth ball of the 64th over of England's first innings at Headingley that spun sharply away from the off stump. The delivery did not entice Ben Stokes, the captain of England, who was at the crease, and the stump microphone clearly recorded Pant's response of "Sensible Stokesy."

The statement didn't upset Stokes, but it appeared to have been on his mind. Following four deliveries, Mohammed Siraj bowled a length ball from around the wicket that nipped away. However, Stokes attempted to play it squarer and push it through point, but he ended up with a thick edge, and Pant finished the rest behind the stumps.

Following the dismissal of centurion Ollie Pope at the beginning of the third day, England had a strong relationship between Stokes and Harry Brook, but Pant's mind game led to the dismissal of the England all-rounder.

Leeds Test delicately balanced

After hooking Prasidh Krishna for what he believed would be a six, Brook barely missed his century by one run when Shardul Thakur caught him on the fine leg boundary. The home crowd was momentarily speechless in the stadium. However, the tail-end batters put up a valiant fight, nearly negating the first innings as India barely maintained a six-run lead.

Jasprit Bumrah, the star bowler, took 5-83, his 14th test five-for, and after three thrilling days, his India was ahead by 96 runs and at 90-2 in the second innings at stumps.

"The game is in the balance," Bumrah told the BBC. "We have to bat well." It will be an exciting match to come because the pitch is a little bit (two)pasted.
