According to Newsweek, quarterback Justin Fields was transported off the field Thursday after sustaining what seemed to be a significant injury during practice at the training camp, in a big blow for the New York Jets. Fields was taken off the practice session this morning with an apparent right toe injury, according to ESPN.

The Cause of Justin Fields' Injury: What Happened?

Following a roll to the right during practice, the 26-year-old came to a stop. As he was tossing an incomplete short pass towards tight end Jeremy Ruckert, he fell. With the help of a nearby trainer, he remained on the ground for a short while before being hopped to the sideline.

According to the New York Post, Fields was on the trainer's table for about ten minutes while professionals began inspecting his lower leg and removing his shoes. The player was then led to the locker room when a wagon appeared. He was even seen entering the crew facilities.

After Fields was injured, quarterback Tyrod Taylor came over to see him, and he was eventually asked to take his place in team practice. When Fields got off the cart and attempted to walk toward the locker room, New York Jets general manager Darren Mougey was seen chatting with the team physician.

Fields joined the Jets as a free agent during the offseason, signing a two-year, $40 million contract following Aaron Rodgers' departure. Fields chose to join the Jets after opting not to re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, despite the team's offer to him during the early stages of the offseason. Nevertheless, according to Sports Illustrated, the team was not prepared to equal the deal he had from the Jets.

Fields played for the Chicago Bears from 2021 through 2023 before joining the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2024 campaign. Russell Wilson sustained a calf injury last season, so he began the Steelers' first six games.

The team's start with Fields was 4-2. Wilson, however, took his place on the bench later on. He managed to amass 1,106 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception in 2024.
