The US District Attorney's office said that the Detroit Pistons star is being looked at for gambling, which may cause Malik Beasley, who is currently a free agent, to be on the verge of losing a massive $42 million deal. The story was first reported by the Associated Press and ESPN, citing sources.

"We are collaborating with the federal prosecutors' inquiry," NBA spokesperson Mike Bass stated in a statement issued to the AP. Fourteen months after the NBA outlawed Toronto's Jontay Porter, who was associated to a prop wager inquiry, the probe takes place. He admitted to committing wire fraud.

Malik Beasley Could Lose $42 Million Amid Gambling Probe

Negotiations for Mike Beasley's contract came to a halt

According to ESPN, Steve Haney, Beasley's lawyer, stated, "An investigation is not a charge." Under the US Constitution, Malik has the same presumption of innocence as everyone else. He hasn't yet been accused of anything.

The 28-year-old was allegedly negotiating a new three-year contract worth $42 million with Detroit, but those negotiations have been put on hold, according to sources.

Beasley might be banned from the NBA if he were proven guilty. The Wall Street Journal broke the news last season that Terry Rozier, who was then with the Charlotte Hornets, was being investigated for actions connected to suspicious betting trends around him in a March 2023 game. As of right now, the Miami Heat player has not been arrested nor is he subject to any penalties.

A major setback for Beasley, who came in second in the Sixth Man of the Year poll and was a locker room captain, would be the loss of the $42 million agreement.

According to sources, the Pistons and Malik Beasley were in 'serious talks' for a three-year contract for $42 million ($14 million per year). The free agent averaged 16.3 points and 41.6% from three during the 2024–25 season, breaking the Pistons' record with 319 three-pointers.
