Mohammad Azharuddin's son has followed in his father's footsteps and entered politics. Mohammad Asaduddin is one of the 69 general secretaries named to the Telangana Congress by the party's leadership earlier this week.

Asaduddin has also played in Ranji Trophy games, and like his father, he will now go into politics. Following the vacancy of Hyderabad's Jubilee Hills seat due to MLA Maganti Gopinath's heart attack death on Sunday, Asaduddin, who is also 35 years old, was appointed. It also sparked conjecture that Asaduddin might run for Congress in the election.

Azharuddin ran as the Congress candidate from Jubilee Hills in the Telangana elections in November 2023, but he lost to Maganti of the BRS by 16,337 votes after taking an early lead against the incumbent MLA.

He stated, “I don’t know what’s in store for me. My dad is still active in politics. Let’s see,” when discussing obtaining a Congress ticket with The Print.

Since the 2023 elections, he has been formally linked with the Congress and has actively participated in his father's electoral campaign, planning rallies, mohalla meetings, and other events throughout the constituency.

"All I can say is that despite the disappointing loss, I stayed strongly connected with the people in Jubilee Hills, taking up their issues," he stated.

He has previously held the position of secretary of the sports cell of the Youth Congress in Telangana. He is also a law graduate and the husband of Anam Mirza, the sister of tennis player Sania Mirza.

Azharuddin remarked on X on Tuesday, "A proud and emotional moment for me as my son, Mohammed Asaduddin, steps into his official role in public life as the General Secretary of the Telangana Congress."

"I've seen his dedication to others, his love for service, and his genuineness firsthand. He should remain humble, concentrated, and guided by the values that really count. Sending him my best wishes as he accepts this duty.
